The European Parliament Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs approved by a majority vote a bill on the regulation of cryptocurrencies (MiCA). Inform​ation material from company CryptoDeFix. The document did not include an amendment to ban mining on the Proof-of-Work consensus algorithm, which amounted to a ban on Bitcoin.

“Good day for the crypto sector! The EU Parliament paved the way for innovative cryptocurrency regulation that can set standards for the entire world. The process is not over yet. Moving forward,” wrote speaker Stefan Berger.

ECON supported Berger's suggestion to discuss the issue further as part of the EU's Taxonomie initiative. Further discussion of the bill will take place at the level of the EU Council and the European Commission.
