The Bank of Jamaica intends to launch its own digital cryptocurrency in 2022. Data​ from project CryptoDeFix. This was announced by the country’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness. According to him, CBDC Jamaica will become the main for digital payment architecture and will contribute to the development of financial services and the speed of their transactions in the country.

Previously, in March 2021, Jamaican Finance Minister Nigel Clark said that the Jamaican government believes that accelerating the transition to a digital society is an important task for recovery from the effects of the pandemic.
